Supporting Angels Through Education

When I founded Global Education Specialists I made a very bold statement. I explained GES had been created to bring together the leading practitioners, thinkers and innovators in the education arena in a global community of practice. That it was not just intended to be a consultancy, but also a think tank, a resource provider of education specialists, and a network of experts all with a single purpose: to use their passion, knowledge, creativity and experience in an area that impacts in some way on every global citizen.

In 2018 I have been given the privilege of being able to use some of that expertise to support the amazing work of the Malaika Foundation. Malaika in Swahili means ‘angel’, and Malaika’s mission is to empower Congolese girls and their communities through education and health programs. Founded by the amazing Noella Coursaris Musunka, Malaika has now been changing lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo for approaching 11 years.

Malaika’s goal is to build the leadership capacity of each individual student so that she gives back to her community, and has a positive, long-term impact on the future of the DRC. In essence, they aim to fuel a generation of change-agents. At the same time, they impact the surrounding community through recreational and life skills programming for adults and children, as well as essential infrastructure development.

When I first read about the foundation I knew I wanted to use the skills and knowledge I and the GES family have, to support this amazing work. I was fortunate enough to have an excellent education that has allowed me to do what I do now. As well as sponsoring five ‘angels’ through their education at the Malaika school, GES have committed to providing support to Noella and the team in whatever way we can assist to make sure the Malaika angels get the best education possible. I could not be more excited to identify how we can best support Malaika moving forward to truly make a difference. Education really does change lives.
